Gerard Murphy is the founder and president of Barefoot Facilitation Inc. Over the past twenty years he has excelled as an educator, facilitator, program developer and leader within the health system and voluntary sector. In Nova Scotia and Newfoundland/Labrador, Gerard has worked provincially and regionally with public health services, primary health care, continuing care, volunteer services and community health boards. He has extensive experience working with three provincial voluntary health organizations to implement health promotion and community development initiatives, as well as supportive care programs for people living with heart disease, stroke, cancer and dementia. Gerard served as project manager with the Nova Scotia Department of Health for an Atlantic continuing interprofessional education initiative aimed at supporting the development of collaborative primary health care teams. He was instrumental in training and supporting over 70 facilitators in Nova Scotia and facilitated train-the-trainer workshops across Atlantic Canada. As project manager with Cancer Care Nova Scotia’s Partners for Interprofessional Cancer Education initiative, Gerard collaborated with partners to design and co-facilitate an Interprofessional Facilitator Development Program. Gerard is a graduate of the School of Health and Human Performance at Dalhousie University. With a commitment to lifelong learning he has certifications in community-based development and leadership development. Gerard is also a certified Personality Dimensions® Qualified Facilitator and has successfully completed the training requirements for Master Trainer in the Stanford Chronic-Disease Self Management Program. Gerard is the president of the Health Promotion Clearinghouse in Nova Scotia.
